Al-Ahly continues its search for a new coach to succeed Marcel Koller, and the latest proposed name is a former Barcelona coach.
Emad El-Nahhas is temporarily taking over as coach of the Red Castle until a new coach is hired before the 2025 Club World Cup.
Al-Ahly in Negotiations with Garcia Pimienta
According to Egyptian press reports, Garcia Pimienta, the former Sevilla coach, is at the top of the list of candidates to lead Al-Ahly.
The Andalusian club dismissed the coach a month ago due to poor results and has received several offers from both La Liga and abroad in recent days.
Al-Ahly inquired through the coach’s agent about Pimienta’s openness to a coaching experience in Egypt.
The coach’s position on accepting the idea remains unknown, although initial indications indicate that he may welcome the idea and see it as a good opportunity to gain experience outside of Spain.
García Pimienta’s Career
The 50-year-old Pimienta has coached all of Barcelona’s youth teams, from the U16s to the reserve team.
The coach, imbued with Barcelona DNA, worked at the Catalan club from 2001 until he left the reserve team in 2021.
Pimienta’s first experience outside of Barça was with Las Palmas, where he played exciting and brilliant football and led the team back to La Liga.
Last summer, Pimienta left Las Palmas after an exciting offer from Sevilla.
With Sevilla, he led the team in 34 matches between La Liga and the Copa del Rey, winning 11, losing 14, and drawing nine. He was sacked in mid-April.
Coaches Candidates for Al Ahly
Al Ahly is currently considering several candidates, but it is certain that several coaches have rejected the Egyptian club, such as Slavan Bilic, Luis Castro, and Marco Rose.
Croatian Nenad Bejeljica, his compatriot Igor Jovicevic, Belgian Philippe Clement, and Portuguese Vitor Bruno are the current favorites, alongside Pimienta.
