According to Sport, the Dutchman has received positive assessments from Barcelona’s scouts. Sporting director Deco is reviewing the market ahead of a possible January signing, following injuries that have restricted Hansi Flick’s defensive options.

The 23-year-old is a left-footed centre-back who can also operate at left-back. That versatility appeals to Barcelona, offering a potential solution to more than one need within the squad.

Deco is looking for defenders with the passing ability, pace and character required to play in a high defensive line. Competition for Baas could complicate any approach, however, with Sport reporting that he has offers from clubs in England and Germany.

Barcelona’s finances remain a major constraint. The report explains that, without additional income from player departures, the club would have limited room in their wage budget. Alejandro Balde is among the players attracting broad interest, and a potential sale could influence Barcelona’s ability to make signings.

Baas joined Ajax’s academy from Excelsior in 2018 and made his first-team debut against Utrecht in August 2022. He spent the 2023–24 season on loan at NEC Nijmegen before returning to establish himself in Amsterdam.

His contract runs until 30 June 2028, following an extension signed in December 2024. Any transfer would therefore require an agreement with Ajax, whose contractual position gives them considerable negotiating strength.

Baas was voted Ajax’s Player of the Year by supporters for the 2025–26 season and recently reached 100 competitive appearances for the club. According to Ajax’s website, he has made 10 league appearances and five in the UEFA Conference League this season.

Barcelona are considering two profiles: a young defender capable of developing while making an immediate contribution, or a more experienced player who would bring additional leadership. Baas remains part of that assessment, with Sport reporting neither an agreement nor advanced negotiations for his signing.
