Argentine football legend Sergio Aguero took the opportunity to mock Cristiano Ronaldo during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Club World Cup.
Before the Al Ahly vs. Inter Miami match, Aguero was accompanied by the famous YouTuber Speed, known for his great love for Ronaldo.
Aguero told Speed, “I know you like Cristiano, that’s okay. I respect him too, but I prefer Lionel Messi.”
Speed responded, “I prefer Ronaldo.” Aguero responded sarcastically, “Is Ronaldo playing with us here? (In the Club World Cup), then he should just watch.”
Aguero’s comments don’t seem out of place, given his close relationship with Lionel Messi, nor are they seen as disrespectful to Ronaldo, whose legendary status the Argentine has acknowledged on more than one occasion.
Messi participated in the Al-Ahly vs. Inter Miami match, where he missed several clear chances, despite a brilliant performance from goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy. The match ended in a goalless draw.
FIFA had hoped Ronaldo would play for any club in the competition held in America, but he decided to continue with Al-Nasr and renew his contract. He rejected the idea of a temporary one-month trial, explaining that he was thinking long-term.
