The Spanish newspaper AS reported that Sergio Ramos is still looking for a new club to join for the remainder of the season after his move to Sevilla fell through.
The Andalusian club refused to sign Ramos until the end of the season, arguing that the player is close to acquiring shares in the club in the coming months, and it would not make sense for him to control the management while still being a player.
Now, the 39-year-old Ramos has offered his services to Marseille, hoping to gain the approval of coach Roberto De Zerbi and bolster the French club for the rest of the current season.
Ramos still aims to continue playing football and perform well enough to convince coach Luis de la Fuente to include him in Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The Real Madrid legend has received several offers from outside Europe, most notably from Iraqi club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, but he prefers to play in one of Europe’s top five leagues for the remainder of his career.
It remains unclear whether Marseille will agree to sign Ramos or prefer to keep him with the current team until the end of the season, especially given the Spanish star’s advanced age and high salary, which discourage European clubs from signing him.
It’s worth noting that some Spanish media outlets have suggested that Ramos may ultimately be forced to retire if he doesn’t find a big club to join, thus abandoning his dream of representing Spain one last time in the World Cup.
