UEFA appears to have yielded to massive public pressure and finally decided to provide support to Gaza in one form or another in light of the genocide being perpetrated there by Israeli forces.
UEFA mourned the death of Palestinian football legend Suleiman Al-Obeid, who died in Rafah after being shot while waiting for food aid.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah retweeted UEFA’s tweet, writing, “Can you tell us why, how, and where he was killed?” in reference to the genocide being perpetrated against the people of Gaza.
After the fierce attack on UEFA following Salah’s tweet, officials attempted to improve the situation somewhat by launching an initiative to support children in Gaza, with an important comment from UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.
The UEFA Foundation for Children confirmed that it had launched an initiative to help children affected by the war. This partnership was established with three charities that provide vital humanitarian aid to children in Gaza.
“No matter what the adults who wage wars think they’re doing, children are innocent,” Čeferin commented. “But in all conflicts, they die every day, and we must do our utmost to help those who strive to make their lives more acceptable and normal.”
He continued, “It is our duty, as parents and as human beings, to stand by children when they need us. Sometimes, even the simplest gesture reminds them that they are not alone, that they are not forgotten, and that they are valued. We cannot change the world alone, but children can and will, if we provide them with the security, love, and hope they need to thrive.”
