Ayoub El Kaabi’s impressive performances with the Moroccan national team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have attracted the attention of several European clubs, most recently a prominent Spanish club.
El Kaabi scored a spectacular overhead kick in the opening match of the tournament against Comoros, a goal that will forever be etched in memory. He then followed that up with another stunning overhead kick in the final group stage match against Zambia.
According to Spanish media reports, Girona has expressed interest in signing El Kaabi as coach Michel seeks a new striker to bolster the Catalan club’s challenging La Liga campaign this season.
The 32-year-old is under contract with Olympiacos until next summer, which might prompt the Greek club to consider selling him this January if they receive a suitable offer, rather than losing him for free next June.
Girona is not the only club vying for the Moroccan international’s signature. French giants Marseille are also pursuing him, and recent rumors suggest that Egyptian side Al Ahly have also made a move to persuade the player to return to Africa.
This season, El Kaabi has made 22 appearances for Olympiacos across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing two assists.
El Kaabi has enjoyed a particularly successful spell with Olympiacos, notably leading the Greek club to victory in the Europa League final against Fiorentina.
