The injury curse continues to plague the Moroccan national team. Following Achraf Hakimi’s injury, there is a strong possibility that the Atlas Lions will lose another star player for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Hakimi’s participation in the tournament remains doubtful, although Walid Regragui has announced that he will call upon the Paris Saint-Germain star to support the team from the sidelines if necessary.
On Saturday, center-back Nayef Aguerd suffered an injury during his team Marseille’s match against Stade Brestois in Ligue 1.
The blow was a blow for Marseille. While the team secured a 3-0 victory, Aguerd’s injury and subsequent substitution in the 79th minute marred the celebrations at the Stade Vélodrome.
The Moroccan player, a key pillar of Marseille’s defense since his arrival this summer, experienced sharp pain in his thigh, a direct result of his ongoing groin injury (sports hernia).
Having already been rested for last week’s Auxerre match, Aguerd appears to have suffered a more serious setback this time. At the press conference, Roberto De Zerbi didn’t hide his concern, saying, “Aguerd is the bad news today. He’s still experiencing groin pain, and it seems to have worsened. He’ll undergo tests, but it’s essential that he rests for a short period.”
He added, “He might miss the Africa Cup of Nations, and there’s also the Super Cup in Kuwait.”
He concluded, “This is a crucial month for the Champions League. I hope it’s nothing serious and that he can recover quickly.”
