Egyptian media reported that Zamalek is about to announce the appointment of a new sporting director in the coming days.
Last month, Englishman Tony Pulis arrived in Cairo, upon the recommendation of Ahmed Hossam Mido, a member of the planning committee, to discuss his appointment as sporting director.
Despite assurances at the time that Pulis would assume the position, news suddenly faded. It was then reported that the Englishman’s financial and even logistical demands hindered reaching an agreement with him.
According to recent reports, Zamalek is moving toward appointing John Edward, the recruitment director at Pharco, as the club’s new sporting director.
Edward has extensive experience in Egyptian football and laid the foundation for Pharco, which has been playing in the Egyptian Premier League for the past five years.
Edward is expected to be responsible for planning Zamalek’s roster for the upcoming season, making the necessary signings, appointing the coach and technical staff, and selling players and generating the necessary financial profits.
It’s worth noting that Zamalek is currently being coached by Ayman El-Ramady on an interim basis until the Egypt Cup final on June 5. The team has recently been suffering from a lack of quality players, making the new sporting director’s task extremely difficult.
