After a long wait… Pogba close to returning to action with Monaco

Monaco coach Sébastien Bocconoli revealed that Paul Pogba is nearing a return to action after more than two years away from the world of football.

Pogba was initially banned for four years in 2023 for doping, but the ban was later reduced to 18 months. Since last March, the French international has been eligible to play again.

Juventus terminated Pogba’s contract at that time, and he joined Monaco on a free transfer last summer. However, he has yet to make an appearance due to a lack of match fitness.

When asked about Pogba’s situation, Bocconoli said, “At the moment, things are going well. I expect him to return very soon.”

He added, “When he returns, we will need to reassess his condition. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen the Paul we knew from his time at Manchester United or his first spell at Juventus.”

He added, “From what I see, he still possesses the necessary skills and abilities. The rhythm of the matches will give us some answers. He can be the best version of himself at Monaco.”

He concluded, “He’s a player who develops according to his age and experience, so we have to judge him based on his experience and age, and my role is to try and guide him towards that level.”

The 32-year-old Pogba is expected to get a chance to play in the match against Nantes or Paris FC next week.
