Perhaps the only real surprise of the Round of 16 was Tunisia’s elimination at the hands of Mali, despite the Eagles playing most of the match with 10 men. The victory came via a penalty shootout.

The last Arab team to qualify for the quarter-finals was Algeria, thanks to Adil Boulabina’s spectacular goal in the final minute of the second period of extra time against DR Congo. Nigeria and Ivory Coast had little difficulty overcoming Mozambique and Burkina Faso, respectively.
