A new name has surfaced on Real Madrid’s shortlist to replace the expected departure of coach Álvaro Arbeloa at the end of the current season.
Florentino Pérez’s administration has decided to terminate Arbeloa’s contract at the latest by the end of the season, unless he pulls off a miracle and wins the Champions League.
According to Corriere dello Sport, current AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is a strong candidate to succeed Arbeloa at Real Madrid.
Allegri is still under contract with Milan until the summer of 2027, and reports have emerged in recent weeks suggesting he might leave next summer following disagreements with the club’s management.
Allegri was close to coaching Real Madrid in 2019 and 2021, even reaching an agreement with Pérez on all the details at the time, before changing his mind at the last minute and opting to coach Juventus.
Allegri’s appointment would undoubtedly be a surprise by all accounts. The coach has faced a sharp decline since returning to Juventus, despite his first stint at the Allianz Stadium being legendary, winning five Serie A titles.
It’s worth noting that Jürgen Klopp remains Real Madrid’s preferred candidate, but securing his services wouldn’t be easy, even if he were to leave his current position at Red Bull.
