Zamalek’s management has made a final decision regarding the dismissal or continuation of coach Yannick Ferreira, following a recent decline in results and increasing calls from fans to terminate the Belgian’s services.
Zamalek has not tasted victory in its last three matches, having drawn 1-1 with El Gouna and Ghazl El Mahalla, as well as losing the derby to Al Ahly 2-1. The common denominator in these matches is that the White Knights advanced but failed to maintain their advantage.
According to Egyptian media reports, Zamalek President Hussein Labib met with Sporting Director John Edward, and during the meeting, the latter insisted on Ferreira’s continued presence, convincing Labib that the coach’s continued presence is the best option for everyone at the current moment.
Ultimately, the meeting concluded with renewed confidence in Yannick Ferreira and his assistant staff, his continued tenure, and a possible final opportunity to rectify matters. A meeting was scheduled with the coach upon his return from vacation next week.
Some reports suggest that one of the main reasons for Ferreira’s stay is Zamalek’s inability to meet his $100,000 release clause, due to the club’s financial crisis.
Zamalek shares the top spot in the Egyptian Premier League with Al-Masry and Al-Ahly, but Al-Ahly and Pyramids FC can claim first place if they win their remaining matches.
