English media reports indicate that a new name has entered Manchester City’s shortlist of candidates to succeed Pep Guardiola as manager next season.
It now seems increasingly likely that Guardiola will leave City next summer, despite his contract running until the summer of 2027.
According to recent reports, Vincent Kompany, the current Bayern Munich manager, has emerged as a strong contender to replace Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium following his impressive success with the Bavarian giants.
Enzo Maresca remains Manchester City’s preferred choice, with Xabi Alonso and Cesc Fabregas also on the list, and now Kompany has been added to the list.
Kompany is favored by City’s management due to his leadership qualities, deep understanding of the club’s culture, and his remarkable success over the past two years with Bayern Munich.
The Belgian made 360 appearances for Manchester City between 2008 and 2019, achieving numerous accolades including four Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups, and three Community Shields.
The 19-year-old coach has two years remaining on his contract with Bayern Munich, and it is unlikely the Bavarian club will let him go, especially after he led them to the Bundesliga title last season and has the opportunity to win the treble this season, making him an invaluable asset.
