English press reports indicate that Liverpool is working on two deals to bolster its defense before the end of the current summer transfer window.
Although the English club has already spent over €200 million and is poised to increase that amount to over €300 million to sign Alexander Isak, this will not prevent the Reds from recruiting two additional central defenders.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool has reached an agreement with Crystal Palace defender Mark Gueye, and it is only a matter of time before Reds officials can finalize the deal with their counterparts at the London club.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is working on signing Parma defender Giovanni Leone, after the club and the player also reached an agreement on personal terms.
It was reported last week that Liverpool would sign one of the two, but at the moment, Arne Slot wants both. The manager believes the season is long and that there should be more than one alternative for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, while planning for the season after next if either of them leaves Anfield.
It should be noted that Liverpool is simultaneously working on a deal for Isak, and according to English newspapers, the Reds will submit a second offer to Newcastle worth £120 million with non-exhaustive add-ons to close the deal before the end of the current transfer window.
