Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that a major European club is considering signing Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez during the current summer transfer window.
The Uruguayan international lost any chance of starting last season, and he doesn’t expect that to change this season, given coach Arne Slot’s lack of confidence in his abilities.
Previous reports suggested that Liverpool were considering selling Nunez for a substantial sum, specifically to the Saudi League. However, reports indicate that another European club is interested in signing the 26-year-old.
According to Romano, Napoli dreams of signing Nunez to bolster their striker position, and discussions are currently underway regarding the possibility of completing the deal.
Nunez is currently Antonio Conte’s top target, so much so that the club has decided not to attempt to sign any other striker until they have thoroughly investigated the Liverpool star.
The major challenge currently lies in Napoli’s ability to meet the financial demands of the deal, given Liverpool’s demands, which will not be less than €60 million, and the player’s high salary.
Logically, Nunez’s salary won’t be a problem, as the player likely wouldn’t even mind taking a pay cut to leave Anfield. However, Liverpool’s management won’t be complacent about the deal, especially since the player cost them more than €80 million three years ago.
It’s worth noting that Napoli is heavily bolstering its squad this summer as part of the club’s commitment to coach Conte. They have already made a major signing from the Premier League, signing Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester City expired.
