Barcelona will be without their star player Frenkie de Jong for a relatively long period after he suffered a muscle injury in training with the Catalan club.
The Dutch international participated fully in Barça’s recent victory against Levante, but was unable to complete training last Wednesday due to muscle pain.
In an official statement, Barcelona announced that De Jong is suffering from a muscle injury in his right leg.
The 28-year-old will be sidelined for Barcelona for between five and six weeks, meaning he will not return until after the upcoming international break.
Thus, it is confirmed that the Catalan captain will miss the Champions League round of 16 matches against Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
At the same time, De Jong will miss the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Atlético Madrid, as well as La Liga matches against Villarreal, Athletic Bilbao, and Rayo Vallecano. His return is expected on April 5th against Atlético Madrid in La Liga.
