Barcelona announced in an official statement that Gavi underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday, but the bad news is that he will be out for a long period of time.
Spanish media outlets had expected Gavi’s absence to be limited to two months following the arthroscopic procedure.
However, Barça stated in its statement that Gavi underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair an injury to the medial meniscus in his knee. The cartilage was sutured to preserve it, and the player will need a long recovery time.
The expected period of Gavi’s absence is estimated at 4 to 5 months, according to Barcelona’s statement.
This means that 2025 is completely over for Gavi, and he will most likely miss the Spanish Super Cup next January in Saudi Arabia.
This injury is a major blow to Gavi’s career, given that it is the second time he has suffered a knee injury, following a torn cruciate ligament in 2023, which kept him out of action for more than a year.
