Al Ahly snatched a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Smouha at Cairo International Stadium in the second round of the 2026 Egyptian Premier League title race.
The Red Devils had been struggling with a recent dip in form, drawing their previous match against Ceramica Cleopatra 1-1 amidst considerable refereeing controversy.
Al Ahly entered the Smouha match determined to secure a win and maintain their title challenge, especially after Pyramids FC’s 1-1 draw with Al Masry earlier in the day.
Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet opened the scoring for Al Ahly with a header, before Samuel Amadi equalized for the Alexandria-based club with an incredible left-footed strike in the dying moments of the first half.
Al Ahly continued their pressure in the second half, searching for an equalizer and squandering several chances, until Taher Mohamed Taher finally broke the deadlock with a header in the 92nd minute.

With this victory, Al Ahly reaches 44 points, drawing level with second-placed Pyramids, who hold the advantage due to their head-to-head record and goal difference.
Zamalek, who do not play this round, remain top of the league table with 46 points. A win in their next match would extend their lead over Al Ahly to five points.
