FIFA has announced a 50% increase in prize money for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The World Cup winner will receive $50 million, while the runner-up will receive $33 million.
Teams finishing fifth through eighth will each receive $19 million, while those finishing ninth through sixteenth will each receive $15 million.
Teams finishing between seventeenth and thirty-second will each receive $11 million.
Teams finishing thirty-third through forty-eighth (those that failed to advance from the group stage) will each receive $9 million.
In addition, each qualified team will receive $1.5 million to cover preparation costs, meaning all participating member associations are guaranteed at least $10.5 million.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said these payments demonstrate that the World Cup will be “a landmark event in terms of its financial contribution to the global football community.” The organization has already projected record revenues of up to $13 billion for the 2023-2026 tournament.
