Four Premier League clubs are locked in a fierce battle to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in the upcoming winter transfer window, with the player himself welcoming the move from the Vitality Stadium to a club that competes on all domestic and regional fronts.
The Athletic revealed that Semenyo’s contract with Bournemouth includes a £65 million release clause that can be activated in January.
According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are the frontrunners to secure Semenyo’s signature, and negotiations with the Ghanaian’s representatives appear to be at an advanced stage to convince him that a move to Old Trafford would be the best option for his career.
United face stiff competition from Manchester City and Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur have also joined the race for the 25-year-old in recent hours.
Manchester United’s interest in signing Semenyo is not new. The player was on the club’s radar last summer at the request of Ruben Amorim, but Bournemouth demanded £80 million for the transfer, causing the deal to collapse despite the player’s initial agreement.
According to recent reports, Semenyo may be more inclined to join Manchester United than Manchester City due to Pep Guardiola’s uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium and reports suggesting the manager could leave at the end of the current season.
Liverpool remain hesitant about signing Semenyo this winter, while Tottenham’s sporting ambitions make the Manchester United option more appealing to the player.
It’s worth noting that Semenyo has made 15 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth this season, scoring 7 goals and providing 3 assists.
