Eintracht Frankfurt announced on Tuesday the death of one of its fans during last Sunday’s match against Cologne, which ended in a 2-2 draw in the German Bundesliga.
The fan suffered a heart attack in the stands at Deutsche Bank Park. Medical personnel intervened and successfully resuscitated him at the stadium before he was transported to the hospital.
Unfortunately, the fan passed away at the hospital despite intensive efforts to save him. Frankfurt issued a statement today mourning the deceased, who was a longtime supporter of the club.
The deceased fan held a Frankfurt season ticket and was a regular attendee at various matches, which only intensified the shock of his death.
Frankfurt wrote in its statement, “When someone is lost right before our eyes, it is almost impossible to put into words.”
Eintracht Frankfurt is one of the most popular clubs in Germany, boasting the fourth-largest membership and consistently packed stadiums for both Bundesliga and European matches.
Frankfurt currently sits seventh in the Bundesliga standings with 39 points, having been eliminated from the Champions League at the domestic league stage.
