The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has reached an agreement to extend Luis de la Fuente’s contract until July 2032, granting the head coach an additional six years of stability covering the 2030 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2032.
De la Fuente’s previous deal ran through Euro 2028, and this new four-year extension comes with a salary adjustment reflecting his standing following recent triumphs.
“His results, his work, and the affection of the fans support him,” said RFEF President Rafael Louzán, pointing out that the manager previously fell outside the top 10 highest-paid national team coaches—a situation this contract rectifies.
Since taking charge of the senior team in December 2022, De la Fuente has become the most successful manager in La Roja history in terms of trophy count, capturing the UEFA Nations League, the UEFA European Championship, and the FIFA World Cup in under four years.
After guiding Spain to the 2026 World Cup, he joined Germany’s Helmut Schön and compatriot Vicente del Bosque as only the third head coach to win both the World Cup and the Euros.
His success with the senior squad builds upon a long-standing career within the Spanish federation, where he previously led youth setups to victories in the 2015 UEFA U-19 Championship, the 2019 UEFA U-21 Championship, the 2018 Mediterranean Games, and a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
The head coach will launch this new chapter with four consecutive UEFA Nations League fixtures: facing England at Wembley on September 26, Croatia in Seville on September 29, the Czech Republic in Oviedo on October 3, and Croatia in Split on October 6.
Despite early discussions surrounding the 2030 World Cup—co-hosted by Spain alongside Portugal and Morocco—De la Fuente insists on taking things one tournament at a time. Meanwhile, his long-term deal ensures continuity beyond that milestone without temporary setbacks turning into future crises.
