The victory arrived at a crucial juncture for Houcine Ammouta’s side following a 1-1 draw against El Mokawloon SC in the previous fixture, taking Al Ahly’s tally to four victories from their opening five matches.

Ahmed Sayed Zizo opened the scoring in the 17th minute, receiving a pass inside the penalty area from Soufiane Benjdida before rounding goalkeeper Mahmoud Jennesh to finish into an open net, ending his goal drought from open play for Al Ahly.

The Red Giants sought to extend their lead, but Jennesh denied two dangerous attempts from Emam Ashour and Zizo, while Youssef Hamdy came close to equalizing for Abu Qir Fertilisers in the 78th minute when his header struck the post.

The match remained unresolved until the fourth minute of stoppage time, when Hussein El Shahat unleashed a long-range strike from outside the penalty area into the back of the net to seal all three points for Al Ahly.

With this result, Al Ahly reached 13 points to assume temporary leadership of the league table ahead of the remaining matchday fixtures, while Abu Qir Fertilisers remain on three points in 17th place following their fourth consecutive defeat.

Al Ahly will not feature in further action prior to the international break running from September 21 to October 8, with the squad receiving five days of rest before their upcoming fixture against Zamalek SC on October 11 at 20:00 Cairo time at Cairo International Stadium for matchday six.
