Lamine Yamal sent an optimistic message to Barcelona supporters, asserting that the current squad possesses all necessary qualities to mount a serious challenge for the UEFA Champions League title this season.
Speaking during an interview on Movistar’s Universo Valdano, the Spanish international addressed the club’s overarching priority of reclaiming European football’s ultimate prize.
Yamal stated: “Being obsessed with winning the Champions League is a good thing, and I am happy to see people walk into the dressing room believing that we can achieve it.”
He added: “We are Barcelona, and this club has experienced eras where it was the best team in history and won the Champions League. We have the squad capable of doing that,” rejecting the notion that European ambitions create negative pressure on the players.
Barcelona are chasing their sixth European crown following an eleven-year drought dating back to June 2015, when they secured a 3-1 victory over Juventus in the Berlin final courtesy of goals from Ivan Rakitić, Luis Suárez, and Neymar.
Yamal has featured in three previous Champions League campaigns: reaching the quarter-finals in his debut 2023–2024 season, advancing to the semi-finals the following year before a dramatic exit against Inter Milan, and departing at the quarter-final stage against Atlético Madrid in the 2025–2026 edition despite scoring in the second leg.
Barcelona’s number 10 initiated his fourth European campaign in fine form, scoring once and providing two assists in a victory over Feyenoord, bringing his overall tournament tally to 12 goals and 11 assists across 34 Champions League appearances.
Yamal holds a series of historical records in the competition, including being the youngest player to start a match, the youngest to score and assist in the same fixture, the youngest goalscorer in a semi-final, and the player with the highest goal tally recorded before reaching 19 years of age.
