Fabian Ruiz has established himself as a prominent candidate for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, asserting that his collective silverware gives him a distinct advantage over his competitors.
Speaking in an interview with France Football, Ruiz stated: “My placement in the final ranking will be determined by the voters. I strive to be among the best; I was included in the top 30 list last year, so I hope to reach a higher position.”
When asked whether any player had produced a superior season, he responded: “In terms of trophies, no. Individually, top players delivered excellent campaigns, and there are many strong contenders.”
Commenting on working under Luis Enrique and Luis de la Fuente, he added: “It is a privilege to train under two of the best coaches in the world. Their playing styles suit my game and allow me to showcase my finest qualities.”
The midfielder dismissed rumors of a past rift with Luis Enrique over his exclusion from Spain’s 2022 World Cup squad, noting: “Our relationship was always good. Managers must make difficult choices, and at that time, he chose not to call me up.”
Ruiz acknowledged that his early period in the French capital was challenging: “My first years were difficult, but Luis Enrique helped me significantly, allowing me to gradually reach the finest form of my career.”
Ruiz completed a remarkable trophy haul featuring the UEFA Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain and the FIFA World Cup with Spain, alongside titles in Ligue 1, UEFA Euro 2024, and the UEFA Nations League, bringing his career total to 18 major honors.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on October 26 in London, with Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Ousmane Dembélé, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia among the leading contenders alongside Ruiz.
