Paris Saint-Germain’s disastrous start to the Ligue 1 season continued on Friday as they suffered a 2–1 defeat at home against AS Monaco at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 3.
The loss marks the first defeat of the domestic campaign for Luis Enrique’s side, following 2–2 draws against Rennes and Lille in their opening two matches, leaving the reigning European champions without a win in the league.
PSG started brightly and broke the deadlock in the 31st minute when Marquinhos chest-controlled a cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia before directing the ball past goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký.
Monaco responded in the second half, with Flávio Nazinho heading home an equalizer in the 58th minute from a Jordan Teze delivery. Stanis Idumbo then sealed the victory in the 72nd minute, latching onto a pass from Aleksandr Golovin and powering past Marquinhos to complete the turnaround.
Despite late tactical changes from Luis Enrique—who brought on Ousmane Dembélé and Ferran Torres—and consecutive saves by Hrádecký against Achraf Hakimi and Kvaratskhelia, Monaco held firm to preserve their perfect start to the season.
The encounter further exposed PSG’s ongoing defensive vulnerabilities, as the club has now conceded multiple goals in four consecutive Ligue 1 matches for the first time since the January–February period of 2005.
With the victory, Monaco moved to the top of the table with a maximum of nine points, while PSG dropped temporarily to 12th place with just two points.
The Paris club will turn their attention to European action when they host Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday, September 9, before traveling to face Brest in Ligue 1 on Sunday, September 13.
