Mykhailo Mudryk is on the verge of leaving Chelsea to join London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on a loan deal that offers the Ukrainian winger a fresh opportunity to revive his career following an extended absence from competitive football.
Fabrizio Romano reported that the two clubs have reached an agreement on a paid loan, with Tottenham also finalizing personal terms with the 25-year-old winger, pending formal paperwork and official announcement.
The contract includes a non-mandatory purchase option set at £75 million (approximately €87.5 million), granting Tottenham the right to make the transfer permanent after assessing his performance during the loan period without incurring immediate financial risk.
The move reunites Mudryk with his former manager Roberto De Zerbi, who provided him with immense trust during their time together at Shakhtar Donetsk in the 2021–2022 season. De Zerbi previously described developing Mudryk as a personal ambition, emphasizing that failing to elevate the winger to the highest level would feel like a personal defeat.
Mudryk joined Chelsea in January 2023 for €70 million plus €30 million in potential add-ons, but struggled to justify the massive investment, recording 10 goals and 9 assists across 73 appearances in all competitions.
The Ukrainian international has not featured in an official match since facing Heidenheim on November 28, 2024, following a provisional suspension after low concentrations of the banned substance meldonium were detected in his sample, which initially led to a four-year ban in early 2026.
However, subsequent revisions to scientific reporting thresholds meant that the same sample would no longer be classified as positive under current guidelines. The case was formally closed on July 30, 2026, via an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that credited time served during his suspension, paving the way for his transfer to Tottenham after nearly 20 months out of competitive action.
