Víctor Muñoz stepped up once again to rescue Liverpool, controlling a pass from Wirtz before unleashing a powerful strike that deflected off Murillo and smashed against the underside of the crossbar on its way into the net in the 82nd minute. The goal marked his home Premier League debut at Anfield, following his league debut against Newcastle United where he drew a stoppage-time penalty to secure another 2–2 draw.
Liverpool became only the second club in Premier League history to open a campaign with consecutive 2–2 draws, joining Everton from the 2014–15 season. Meanwhile, Muñoz maintained his immediate impact, directly contributing to securing two points in his first two league appearances.
The result moves Liverpool to two points, placing them temporarily in 10th position pending the remaining matchday two fixtures, with 4 goals scored and 4 conceded. The Reds will travel to face Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Friday, September 4, 2026, for matchday three of the Premier League.
