Mundo Deportivo revealed that Fort welcomed Dortmund’s sporting project and is awaiting the final formula agreement between both clubs, driven by his desire to play regularly and compete with a team participating in the UEFA Champions League.

The fixed transfer fee will not be less than €10 million, while discussions center on potential add-ons, a sell-on percentage for Barcelona, and a buy-back option. Through these clauses, the Catalan club seeks immediate income without completely losing control over one of its academy products.

Fort began his journey at La Masia during the 2013-2014 season, before Xavi Hernández handed him his official first-team debut on December 13, 2023, starting against Royal Antwerp in the Champions League. Since then, he has played 29 official matches in a Barcelona shirt, totaling 1,159 minutes without scoring.

The 2024-2025 season was Fort’s most active with the first team, featuring in 19 matches and forming part of the Barcelona squad that won La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España. However, he was unable to secure a permanent starting spot due to Hansi Flick’s reliance on Jules Koundé at right-back.

Fort went out on loan to Elche last season in search of playing time, delivering a promising start before it was disrupted by a dislocated left shoulder requiring surgery. Despite this, he concluded the loan spell with 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists—comprising 2 goals and 2 assists in 14 league matches, and 1 goal in 3 Copa del Rey ties.

The young fullback returned to Barcelona under a contract running until the summer of 2029; however, Flick informed him during pre-season that he was not in his plans, leading him to train away from the group while awaiting a departure. Given the difficulty of finding enough room to develop, Dortmund appeared to be the ideal destination for a player capable of playing both right and left-back, and for a club renowned for giving young talents the opportunity to grow and increase their market value.

Fort’s transfer comes as part of a wide-ranging exit operation that saw the departures of Ansu Fati, Iñaki Peña, and Ferran Torres, along with loan moves for Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araújo. They could soon be joined by Marc Casadó, whose role has become secondary following the arrival of Rodri, and Alejandro Balde, whose future is surrounded by uncertainty after the return of João Cancelo and interest from Manchester United, noting that the departures of the duo have not yet been finalized.
