Reports indicate that Barcelona have reached an agreement with Fenerbahçe regarding the transfer details. Under the proposed structure, Barça will sign Livakovic now and immediately send him out on a season-long loan before integrating him into the first-team squad next year.

The 2027 Goalkeeping Succession Strategy

Barcelona’s strategic roadmap aims to position the 31-year-old Croatian as a reliable backup to primary goalkeeper Joan Garcia in summer 2027:

  • Wojciech Szczęsny: The Polish veteran’s contract expires on June 30, 2027, marking the expected end of his tenure at the club.

  • Dominik Livakovic: Currently under contract at Fenerbahçe through June 2028, the deal is expected to be completed for around €3 million plus add-ons, followed by an immediate loan spell to guarantee regular playing time.

  • Marc-André ter Stegen: Currently on a season-long loan at Ajax with no buy option through June 30, 2027, the German keeper remains under contract until 2028. Out of Hansi Flick’s plans following Joan Garcia’s rise, his return next summer will require a permanent resolution via sale, loan, or mutual termination.

Livakovic’s Career Background

Livakovic built his reputation at NK Zagreb before moving to Dinamo Zagreb in 2015, where he won multiple domestic titles and featured regularly in European competitions. He joined Fenerbahçe in August 2023 for €6.6 million following a stellar performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where his penalty shootout heroics against Japan and Brazil helped Croatia secure a third-place finish.
