Young Aston Villa striker Bryan Madjo stole the spotlight against Paris Saint-Germain after becoming the youngest player to score a goal in the history of the UEFA Super Cup final.
Madjo’s achievement came during his start for Unai Emery’s squad against the Champions League winners, in a match held at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria.
The 17-year-old scored the equalizer for Aston Villa in the 44th minute, meeting John McGinn’s cross toward the far post with a direct touch. The ball hit the crossbar before crossing the goal line of goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.
At 17 years and 212 days old, Madjo became the youngest-ever goalscorer in a UEFA Super Cup final. Opta also reported that he is the youngest player to start a match in the tournament since such data began being recorded.
Born in Enfield, London, Madjo grew up in Luxembourg before moving to the Metz academy and completing his football development in France. There, he also made history as the first player born in 2009 to start a match in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
The promising forward played 5 matches in the French Ligue 1 with Metz without scoring, before transferring to Aston Villa in January 2026 for an estimated fee of around £10 million. He spent the past six months with the reserve team before being promoted to the first team, successfully marking his debut with an incredibly precious goal against PSG.
Madjo had scored 4 goals during Aston Villa’s pre-season preparations, including a brace against Walsall. However, he had to wait until his club won its case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the rules on the transfer of minors, officially granting him the right to play and kicking off his journey with a historic goal in his first competitive appearance.
