Celtic Football Club has officially announced the signing of Egyptian winger Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo, as the 24-year-old embarks on a new chapter in his career in the Scottish Premiership.
The Scottish champions clarified that Haissem has signed a 4-year contract with an option for a fifth year, and will wear the number 23 shirt, following the completion of his international clearance.
The club did not disclose the financial details, but British and Spanish reports estimated the deal’s value at around £6 million in fixed fees, potentially rising to £9 million with incentives and add-ons.
“It is a great moment and a true honor for me to join Celtic,” Haissem said after signing his contract. “It is an exceptional club with a fantastic history and incredible fans. When I heard of Celtic’s interest, I had to come and become a part of the club.”
He added: “I am looking forward to meeting all my teammates and facing the challenges ahead. I want to play my part in bringing success to our fans.”
Haissem began his professional career with French club Châteauroux before moving to Villarreal in 2020. He then played for Mirandés and Sporting Gijón, and joined Real Oviedo in 2024, helping them achieve promotion to the Spanish La Liga. Last season, he made 38 appearances across all competitions, providing 3 assists without scoring.
The Egyptian winger’s stock rose following his impressive performances at the 2026 World Cup. He participated in two matches and assisted Mostafa Zico’s goal against Argentina in the Round of 16, a match that ended in a 3-2 defeat for Egypt. He also contributed to another goal that was ruled out by VAR.
