Fenerbahçe has finalized its agreement with Napoli to permanently sign Romelu Lukaku, after both clubs reached a mutual formula for the Belgian striker’s transfer to the Turkish Super Lig, pending paperwork completion and the official announcement.
According to Turkish and European reports, Fenerbahçe will pay over €6 million alongside add-ons, after Lukaku agreed to personal terms and expressed his readiness to fly to Istanbul to complete the deal.
The 33-year-old’s departure comes after a breakdown in his relationship with Napoli officials. He angered the club when he remained in Belgium to complete his treatment program and failed to respond to requests to return to training, prompting management to threaten disciplinary action against him.
Lukaku suffered a severe hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for most of the 2025-2026 season, making only 7 appearances for Napoli—all as a substitute—for a total of 69 minutes, during which he scored one goal.
The Belgian forward boasts an illustrious career with Anderlecht, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Everton, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Roma, and Napoli. He has played over 800 matches for club and country, scoring more than 400 goals, and stands as Belgium’s all-time top scorer.
Fenerbahçe is competing this season in the Turkish Super Lig and the Turkish Cup, alongside aiming to navigate the qualifiers to reach the UEFA Champions League league phase. Their main objective remains ending Galatasaray’s dominance and reclaiming the league title, which they last won in the 2013-2014 season.
Lukaku caps off a strong summer transfer window for Fenerbahçe, who also signed Mason Greenwood, Nathan Aké, and Vedat Muriqi to reinforce a squad that boasts prominent names such as Ederson, Milan Škriniar, N’Golo Kanté, Marco Asensio, and Anderson Talisca.
