The two clubs agreed on a season-long loan move to Anfield after manager Hansi Flick informed the player that he would not be a starter in his plans for the upcoming season.

Liverpool will cover Araujo’s full salary throughout the loan spell. The agreement also includes an option for the English club to make the move permanent in the summer of 2027, though it does not oblige Liverpool to complete the purchase.

Key Financial & Transfer Details:

  • €55 Million Buy Option: According to newspaper AS, the purchase option is set at €55 million. Activating the clause will depend on the player’s performance and his ability to stay fit, given his injury history in recent years.

  • Imminent Arrival: Araujo missed Barcelona’s trip to Italy after saying goodbye to his teammates, preparing to fly to England to complete the remaining formalities. The 27-year-old defender’s current contract with the Catalan club runs until June 2031.

  • Liverpool Squad Rebuild: Under manager Andoni Iraola, Liverpool continues to reshape its roster. Having already signed Spanish winger Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna for €40 million and young French defender Jérémy Jacquet from Rennes, Liverpool turned to Araujo to provide experience and depth following the departure of Ibrahima Konaté.

  • Barcelona Roster Overhaul: Barcelona’s squad has seen major changes this summer: Robert Lewandowski departed on a free transfer to Chicago Fire, Ansu Fati completed a permanent move to Monaco for €11 million, and goalkeeper Iñaki Peña joined Panathinaikos for €3 million. Araujo’s loan comes as Ferran Torres also nears a transition to Paris Saint-Germain.
