Liverpool has delivered a massive transfer shock by reaching an agreement with Barcelona to sign Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo in a swift, unexpected summer deal.
The two clubs agreed on a season-long loan move to Anfield after manager Hansi Flick informed the player that he would not be a starter in his plans for the upcoming season.
Liverpool will cover Araujo’s full salary throughout the loan spell. The agreement also includes an option for the English club to make the move permanent in the summer of 2027, though it does not oblige Liverpool to complete the purchase.
