The proposed transfer of Ivorian winger Yan Diomandé from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid remains stalled, despite the 19-year-old agreeing to personal terms and expressing his desire to join the Spanish club.
The deal has evolved into one of the summer’s most complex transfer sagas, with two major obstacles preventing the player from traveling to Spain for his medical examination.
No Financial Agreement Between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig
The primary hurdle lies in the lack of a final agreement over the transfer fee and payment structure between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig.
Leipzig rejected an initial offer from the Spanish giants valued at €90 million plus €10 million in add-ons. Real Madrid subsequently raised their bid to approximately €120 million (€100 million guaranteed), but the German side is holding out for a total package closer to €130 million.
Disagreements also persist regarding the payment installments and performance-related criteria. RB Leipzig Sports Director Marcel Schäfer denied that a deal had been finalized, emphasizing that negotiations have not yet reached a conclusive stage.
Agent Dispute Threatens Registration Delays
A secondary legal obstacle involves a dispute between Diomandé’s former agency, Maxidell Management, and his current representatives, Roc Nation Sports (owned by American rapper Jay-Z).
Maxidell Management—founded by retired Ivorian footballer Max Gradel, who oversaw Diomandé’s move from Leganés to Leipzig—claims its exclusive representation contract with the player remains valid through December 2027.
In February, Diomandé switched representation to Roc Nation, the agency with which Real Madrid conducted contract negotiations. Maxidell has filed a complaint citing breach of exclusivity, elevating the dispute to FIFA following a referral to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The dispute could potentially impact the issuance of Diomandé’s International Transfer Certificate (ITC), as FIFA may delay registration until commission rights are resolved. While a provisional license remains a possibility, Real Madrid must first finalize financial terms with Leipzig before resolving the legal dispute to complete the transfer.
