Contract renewal negotiations between Hossam Hassan and the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have hit a major stumbling block after the Pharaohs’ head coach requested a monthly salary of 5 million EGP in his new deal.
According to Egyptian media reports, a significant financial gap exists between Hassan’s demands and what the EFA is willing to offer. Negotiations are expected to resume once the coach returns from his vacation in the North Coast.
Hassan Requests Five Times His Current Salary
Under his current contract with the Egypt national football team, Hossam Hassan earns approximately 1 million EGP per month, while his brother Ibrahim Hassan, the team director, receives around 750,000 EGP.
Following Egypt’s World Cup performance, the EFA initially planned to double Hassan’s salary to 2 million EGP monthly. However, the manager’s request for 5 million EGP has halted progress, leaving contract talks at a standstill.
In an unexpected turn, EFA President Hany Abou Rida is not personally handling the high-profile negotiations. Instead, the EFA has formed a dedicated committee—comprising Vice President Khaled El-Darandaly alongside board members Tariq Abou El-Enein and Hamada El-Sherbini—to draft the new terms and negotiate directly with the head coach before submitting the final draft to Abou Rida for official approval.
Hossam Hassan’s Historic World Cup Run
Hossam Hassan recently led the Egyptian national team to its most successful FIFA World Cup campaign in history, guiding the Pharaohs past the group stage into the knockout rounds for the very first time.
Egypt secured 5 points in the group stage following draws against Belgium and Iran, alongside a 3-1 victory over New Zealand. The team advanced further by beating Australia on penalties in the Round of 32, before exiting in the Round of 16 after a narrow 3-2 defeat to Argentina.
This historic World Cup achievement followed Egypt’s semi-final run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Consequently, the EFA board agreed to extend Hassan’s tenure through the 2030 World Cup, leaving only the financial terms to be settled.

Appointed in February 2024, Hossam Hassan has managed 35 matches across all competitions with the Pharaohs, according to Transfermarkt data.
Under his leadership, Egypt recorded 20 wins, 9 draws, and 6 losses, averaging 1.97 points per match with a win rate exceeding 57%. Furthermore, “El-Ameed” guided the team through an unbeaten African World Cup qualifying campaign, reached the AFCON semi-finals, and secured a spot in the World Cup Round of 16.
