According to journalists David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have actively begun working on securing the deal. The Blues have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the Brentford midfielder, despite competing interest from two other Premier League clubs.

Henderson is understood to be open to the prospect of moving to Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, Brentford are prepared to grant the 36-year-old a free transfer in light of the strong relationship and mutual respect between the player and the club.

Chelsea have been actively scouring the market for a seasoned leader to bring experience and authority to their young dressing room. After a move for Granit Xhaka fell through, Henderson emerged as an ideal, low-cost solution capable of guiding the squad’s emerging talent.

The England international joined Brentford in the summer of 2025 on a two-year contract, making his Premier League return following brief spells with Saudi side Al-Ettifaq and Dutch giants Ajax.

Henderson remains one of Liverpool’s most iconic modern captains. During his storied spell at Anfield, he made 492 appearances, scored 33 goals, and captained the club to Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup glory.
