Paris Saint-Germain have shifted their focus to Barcelona forward Ferran Torres after pulling out of the race to sign Yan Diomande. The French champion’s hierarchy is now moving to accelerate talks for the Spaniard in the summer transfer window.
PSG’s interest in Torres is not merely a knee-jerk reaction to missing out on Diomande. The Parisian club had probed the 26-year-old’s availability weeks ago; however, the breakdown of negotiations with RB Leipzig pushed the Spanish international to the top of their attacking shortlist.
Torres is highly rated by Luis Enrique, who knows him well from his time managing the Spain national team. Enrique deeply values Torres’ versatility, particularly his ability to operate as a central striker or across either wing.
Reports indicate that Enrique spoke directly with Torres during the World Cup, reiterating his desire to bring him to the Parc des Princes. PSG are actively searching for a new forward following Gonçalo Ramos’ departure to AC Milan. Torres enjoyed an impressive campaign with Barcelona, scoring 16 goals in 33 La Liga appearances last season.
The Spaniard’s market value soared further after he scored the decisive winning goal for Spain against Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final. This breakout performance on the global stage could prompt Barcelona to demand a significantly higher fee than the initial €50 million valuation.
PSG officially withdrew from negotiations for Diomande after deeming Leipzig’s financial demands and the player’s salary expectations “disproportionate.” Real Madrid subsequently capitalized on the situation, reaching an agreement to sign the Ivorian winger for a package exceeding €100 million.
Torres remains under contract with Barcelona until June 2027, and the Catalan club is keen to offer him an extension starting in September. While contact has been established with the player’s camp, Barcelona have yet to receive a formal bid from Paris.
The deal remains far from sealed. PSG must first secure Torres’ green light before opening direct negotiations with Barcelona—a move that may also hinge on the future of Bradley Barcola, who continues to be heavily targeted by Liverpool.
