Marc-André ter Stegen’s proposed loan move to Ajax has hit a snag following fresh financial disagreements with Barcelona regarding the coverage of the German goalkeeper’s salary.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, talks had reached an advanced stage; however, both clubs remaining firm on their positions has currently pushed the deal away from a final agreement.
Barcelona is reluctant to cover the larger portion of Ter Stegen’s wages as the club actively works to reduce its wage bill and comply with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
Conversely, Ajax is unable to increase its financial contribution. Previous reports indicate that the Dutch club’s offer does not exceed covering 10% of the goalkeeper’s salary, which is estimated at around €16 million per year.
The transfer was initially delayed due to tax procedures concerning the player. Although a breakthrough briefly revived optimism, the latest dispute over wage distribution has once again halted negotiations.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper returned to Barcelona following his loan spell at Girona. With his contract at the Catalan club running until June 2028, finding a suitable financial resolution remains crucial for his departure.
Ajax manager Francesco Farioli remains eager to sign Ter Stegen after working with him at Girona, amid optimism that negotiations could resume in the coming days to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
