FC Barcelona have officially confirmed the death of a construction worker following a tragic accident on Friday during the ongoing renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou stadium.
According to Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police), the 54-year-old worker suffered a fatal blow while performing his duties. Police units, investigative teams, and Medical Emergency Services (SEM) were dispatched immediately to the scene.
Medical personnel performed emergency resuscitation efforts to save the worker’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the site. Local authorities have launched an official investigation to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the incident.
In accordance with protocol for workplace fatalities, both the duty court of investigation and Catalonia’s Department of Business and Labour were formally notified of the tragedy.
FC Barcelona issued an official statement expressing their deepest condolences and solidarity with the victim’s family, friends, and co-workers. The club added that President Joan Laporta will personally contact the worker’s family to offer sympathies on behalf of FC Barcelona.
In the wake of the tragic event, club management suspended all construction and renovation work at Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday as a mark of respect and mourning.
This marks the first recorded fatality at the Spotify Camp Nou renovation site since the major redevelopment project began in June 2023. Authorities continue their investigation before releasing final conclusions regarding liability.
