Real Madrid have firmly shifted their transfer strategy toward signing Ivorian sensation Yan Diomande, a decision triggered by the realization that acquiring Michael Olise from Bayern Munich was an impossible feat during this summer window.
Michael Olise was long considered the ultimate dream target for Los Blancos President Florentino Pérez. Real Madrid were reportedly willing to push their financial limits with a staggering bid near the €200 million mark to bring the French international to the Santiago Bernabéu.
However, Bayern Munich shut the door completely on any potential transaction. The Bavarian club formally notified Real Madrid that Olise was strictly non-transferable, regardless of the figure offered. Respecting the historic relationship and mutual trust between the two European giants, Real Madrid chose not to escalate matters and swiftly pivoted to alternative options.
That search led directly to Leipzig’s breakout star, Yan Diomande. The 19-year-old winger enjoyed a meteoric rise in Germany after joining Leipzig from Leganés in the summer of 2025 via his €20 million release clause—despite having logged only ten top-flight appearances in La Liga at the time.
Diomande proved his elite potential in his debut Bundesliga campaign, recording 13 goals and 10 assists across 36 appearances in all competitions. His explosive performances earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award, causing his market valuation to skyrocket within twelve months.
Prior to Real Madrid’s approach, Liverpool had identified Diomande as a primary candidate to succeed Mohamed Salah, while Paris Saint-Germain had already agreed personal terms with the player through 2031. However, PSG failed to reach an agreement with Leipzig, leaving the door wide open.
Real Madrid’s entry into the race completely altered the dynamic. Drawn to the prospect of wearing the iconic white shirt, Diomande made moving to the Bernabéu his absolute priority following positive initial talks regarding personal terms.
Although Leipzig turned down Real Madrid’s opening proposal of €90 million plus €10 million in add-ons, Los Blancos are preparing a second, improved offer to seal the deal—officially turning the page on the Olise dream to secure one of football’s brightest young talents.
