Turkish club Beşiktaş has announced the resignation of Veysel Ahmet Çağlar, a board member of the club’s football entity, following days of controversy sparked by his comments regarding negotiations to sign Mohamed Salah.
In an official statement released via Turkey’s Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), the club confirmed that Çağlar officially vacated his post on July 23, 2026, without providing further details on the reasons behind the decision or naming his replacement.
Çağlar found himself at the center of a storm after posting a photo on social media showing the Liverpool star in a Beşiktaş jersey, accompanied by the caption “Soon.” The post came while negotiations were still ongoing and before any finalized deal had been reached.
Transfer Drama: Agent Demands and Board Backlash
The premature disclosure triggered severe backlash within the board. Beşiktaş President Serdar Adalı publicly criticized the leak, explaining that widespread media rumors forced Salah’s agent to escalate his financial demands.
Adalı revealed that the Egyptian international had initially agreed to the move after holding talks with manager Vincenzo Italiano and the sporting director. While representative Ramy Abbas initially accepted the club’s financial proposal, he later requested a commission near 35%, a demand Beşiktaş firmly rejected.
The saga took another turn after Çağlar denied resigning voluntarily, claiming the club’s official statement did not reflect reality and threatening legal action to protect his rights.
