Qatari media outlets report that Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has received two offers from Qatar Stars League clubs, just days after announcing his departure from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli by mutual consent.
The Algerian international’s contract was set to run until the summer of 2027. However, the Jeddah-based club opted to replace him with a younger player capable of long-term contribution at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.
At 35 years old, Mahrez’s next destination remains uncertain, especially with a return to European football looking highly unlikely at this stage of his career.
Key Details of the Qatari Interest:
-
The Offers: Two unnamed Qatari clubs have officially moved to sign Mahrez.
-
The Asian Factor: One of the interested clubs is participating in the AFC Champions League Elite.
-
The Appeal: Playing in Asia’s premier club competition could be a major incentive for Mahrez, who recently announced his international retirement following Algeria’s campaign in the 2026 World Cup.
A Historic Legacy with Al-Ahli
During his highly successful spell with Al-Ahli, Mahrez made 122 appearances, scoring 37 goals and providing 46 assists.
He led the club to back-to-back AFC Champions League Elite titles, alongside the Saudi Super Cup, cementing his status as one of the elite few to win the pinnacle club trophy in both Europe and Asia.
