Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli has reached a full agreement with Sporting CP for the transfer of winger Francisco Trincão, marking the biggest summer signing for the “Fortress of Trophies” so far.
Negotiations between Al-Ahli’s management and Sporting CP accelerated over the past few hours, culminating in a total package deal worth €50 million. The agreement consists of a €45 million fixed fee plus an additional €5 million in add-ons.
While Trincão was initially leaning toward staying in Europe, he was ultimately convinced to complete the move to the reigning AFC Champions League Elite champions.
According to Romano, the former Barcelona winger will earn a staggering €10 million annual salary in Jeddah, which is several times his current earnings with the Portuguese club.
Trincão to Replace Riyad Mahrez in Jaissle’s Squad
The acquisition of Trincão is primarily aimed at replacing Algerian superstar Riyad Mahrez. Al-Ahli decided to part ways with Mahrez after his four-year tenure at the Shining Jewel stadium, seeking a younger and more dynamic player to lead the right wing under manager Matthias Jaissle.
Al-Ahli Transfer Window Update: Francisco Trincão marks Al-Ahli’s second marquee signing of the summer, following the €25 million acquisition of Armenian midfielder Eduard Spertsyan. The club has also bolstered its squad with the arrivals of Abubakar Sidi Kinteh and Mishaal Al-Mutairi.
