Scottish club Celtic are hoping to close a deal for Egyptian winger Haitham Hassan, following his standout performance for “the Pharaohs” against Argentina in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup.
According to British outlet Football Insider, Celtic’s management is optimistic about completing the signing of the Real Oviedo player for a fee below his €10 million release clause.
Reports indicate the Scottish side are preparing to submit a new offer after an earlier £3.4 million bid was rejected, still hoping to close the deal for less than the release clause.
On that note, journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that manager Martin O’Neill has grown serious about pushing forward transfer business ahead of the club’s Champions League qualifying campaign, adding that signing Haitham Hassan would be warmly welcomed by Celtic fans given his standout displays with Egypt at the World Cup.
Haitham Hassan failed to score for Real Oviedo throughout last season, which ended in the club’s relegation to the second division, making his departure almost inevitable as he enters the final year of his contract, which runs until the summer of 2027.
The player, who has Tunisian and French roots, is drawing interest from more than one European club — Villarreal are also said to be eyeing a move for him — but Celtic currently appear to be the more serious suitor in negotiations.
