The 34-year-old forward’s final international chapter concluded at the 2026 World Cup, where the African powerhouse reached the Round of 32 before suffering a heartbreaking 3-2 elimination at the hands of Belgium.

Reports had surfaced suggesting that Mané’s relationship with captain Kalidou Koulibaly had grown tense, following rumors that Mané requested the defender be dropped due to a dip in form. Additionally, disagreements had reportedly escalated between the Al-Nassr star and Senegal’s manager, Pape Thiaw.

Ultimately, Mané decided that the time was right to end his international journey and shift his full focus to his club career with Al-Nassr, where he remains under contract with the Saudi side until the summer of 2027.

In an emotional statement published by Senegalese media, Mané expressed:

“Please know that I have sacrificed everything for this flag. I gave my absolute best, and I always fought with everything I had for our nation.”

He further added:

“Your unwavering support was the real fuel behind every single success I achieved.”

Looking ahead to the next chapter of his life, Mané concluded:

“I will be more than happy to put my experience at the service of our country in the future, whether as part of a technical staff, on the managerial bench, or within our sports institutions.”

Mané made his international debut for Senegal back in 2012 at the age of 20. Since then, he has amassed 130 caps across all competitions, scoring 54 goals and providing 29 assists.

His legendary legacy includes leading Senegal back to the FIFA World Cup in 2018 after a 16-year absence, as well as guiding his nation to their historic first-ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 2021 by defeating Egypt on penalties.

Perhaps the most unforgettable final moment of his career came during the 2025 AFCON. Mané famously urged his teammates to return to the pitch and refuse a strike against Morocco in the final. While the Teranga Lions initially won that match 1-0, the title was later controversially stripped from them and awarded to Morocco by a CAF ruling.
