French forward Kylian Mbappe has strongly condemned a Paraguayan senator, describing her as “despicable” and unworthy of her office after she made a series of racist remarks mocking his origins and education.
Celeste Amarilla, a member of Paraguay’s Authentic Radical Liberal Party, posted her controversial comments on X (formerly Twitter) following her country’s defeat against France in the World Cup Round of 16.
Mbappe’s Fierce Response to Racism
Responding directly to the insults, Mbappe stated:
“Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay—a country that has sweated passion and honor throughout this competition.”
The French superstar added:
“Through your recklessness and brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country. I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world.”
Pre-Match Controversy Involving Chilavert
Amarilla’s comments followed similar remarks from former legendary Paraguay goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert. In the buildup to Saturday’s fixture, Chilavert sparked outrage by claiming his national side was facing “a squad from Africa” due to the diverse backgrounds of the French players.
France Set to Face Morocco in the Quarter-Finals
On the pitch, Mbappe scored the match-winning penalty in the second half of Saturday’s clash, securing France’s spot in a highly anticipated quarter-final showdown against Morocco, scheduled to take place in Boston next Thursday.
