Bayern Munich playmaker Jamal Musiala has undergone surgery immediately after returning from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following Germany’s shocking round-of-32 elimination.
The 23-year-old underwent a minor, routine operation that had long been scheduled for the post-World Cup period. The procedure is part of a standard medical follow-up to the severe injury he suffered last summer with the Bavarian giants during the FIFA Club World Cup.
In that tournament, Musiala sustained a fractured fibula along with a fractured and dislocated ankle during the quarter-final defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. This grueling injury forced the midfielder to miss 32 matches across all competitions last season during his lengthy recovery process.
Pre-Season Preparations and the German Super Cup
Following Die Mannschaft’s early exit from this summer’s World Cup at the hands of Paraguay, Bayern seized the opportunity to carry out the postponed procedure. The club confirmed that the young star will be able to complete his pre-season preparations according to a structured rehabilitation plan.
This plan aims to ensure he is fully fit for the start of Bayern’s competitive season, when they face arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup on August 22nd.
Musiala now joins teammates Lennart Karl and Serge Gnabry, who are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the club’s Säbener Straße headquarters. Meanwhile, the rest of the squad is scheduled to return to training on July 20th to begin pre-season preparations before kicking off their Audi Summer Tour in East Asia this August.
