Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Football Association, has confirmed the departure of Moroccan manager Jamal Sellami from his post as head coach of the Jordan national team, following the Chivalrous (Al-Nashama) historic first-ever appearance at the 2026 World Cup.
Sellami, who played a pivotal role in leading Jordan to the World Cup and reaching the final of the 2025 Arab Cup, faced harsh criticism due to the team’s performance in the global tournament, where the Arab nation suffered three consecutive defeats against Austria, Algeria, and Argentina.
Following the Jordanian delegation’s return to Amman, Prince Ali met with the Moroccan coach to review the recent period. The meeting concluded with Sellami being informed that his contract—which expired at the end of Jordan’s campaign in the United States, Canada, and Mexico—would not be renewed.
Prince Ali posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account:
“During my meeting with my dear brother, Coach Jamal Sellami today, as your journey with Al-Nashama comes to an end, we thank you for your efforts, outstanding dedication, and your contribution to achieving the historic milestone of qualifying our national team for the World Cup.”
He added: “Your experience with Al-Nashama was exceptional, and you will always remain a dear son of Jordan for the sincerity, professionalism, and leadership spirit you displayed.”

It is worth noting that Sellami succeeded his compatriot Hussein Ammouta—who currently manages Egypt’s Al Ahly—in leading Jordan back in 2024. Since then, he managed 30 matches with the national team, securing 11 wins, 8 draws, and 11 defeats.
