SSC Napoli have officially announced the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach on a contract running until June 2029.
The 58-year-old manager replaces Antonio Conte, who left the Neapolitan club at the end of May after two seasons in charge. Conte successfully guided Napoli to the Serie A title during the 2024-2025 season, before securing a second-place finish last season.
Allegri, who was sacked by AC Milan at the end of last season, returns to the club where he briefly played during the 1997-1998 campaign. Napoli had been waiting for the Italian tactician to complete the termination procedures of his Milan contract before making the deal official.
One of Italy’s most decorated managers, Allegri won the Scudetto with AC Milan in 2011 before embarking on a trophy-laden first spell at Juventus, where he clinched five consecutive Serie A titles.
During his highly successful initial stint with Juventus, Allegri also lifted the Coppa Italia four consecutive times and won the Supercoppa Italiana twice, alongside reaching the UEFA Champions League finals in 2015 and 2017.
However, Allegri’s career faced a noticeable decline starting in 2021 upon his return to Juventus. He subsequently took charge of AC Milan last season but was dismissed after failing to secure Champions League qualification.
